Garage door spring loose tension from year to year if you paint your garage door, you’re adding weight to the door. A gallon of paint weights 13 pounds, so if you add a ½ gal of primer and a ½ gal of paint that’s 13 pounds right there. Do that 2 times in 10 years that’s 26 pounds plus the spring tension loss you could be at 40 to 50 pounds easy. You should have your garage door rebalanced every 5 to 7 years if you haven’t had any broken springs. Have your garage door opener professional service at least every 5 years.
